Brief description / remarks:
The Faculty of Life Sciences, Mandsaur University had organized an industrial visit to “Gujarat University, Ahmedabad., Lincoln Pharmaceuticals, Khatraj, Ahmedabad., Science City, Ahmadabad., Amul Dairy, Anand & Amul Chocolate Factory, Mogar” for the students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Biotechnology/Microbiology IV Sem. & VI sem. and M.Sc. Biotechnology/ Microbiology IV sem. dated on 26th May to 28th May 2022. The main objective of this visit was to enlighten students about the industry- academia correlation as well as career opportunities in the pharmaceutical & dairy industries. The industrial visit started at sharp 6.30 am from Mandsaur University by bus and reached to Ratlam Railway station and thereafter by train reached the Ahmadabad at 2pm. On the same day students reached to Gujarat University, Ahmedabad at 3pm. The visit started with the visit of Advanced instrumentation laboratory of Department of Biochemistry & Forensic Sciences, Gujarat University. Students learn about various sophisticated instruments like DNA sequences, HPLC, nano spectrophotometer, HPLC, Analytical centrifuges, UV transilluminator, RT- PCR, Ultra low temperature freezers etc. Student also visited the biosafety laboratory of department. Thereafter, students visited GUSEC (Gujarat University Startup and Entrepreneurship Council). The students learn about how to start their own start up, they learned how an idea can be converting into a product.
Dr. Ashish Warghane, Associate Professor and Mrs. Sunita Baishya Assistant Professor, visit coordinator, felicitated Dr. Rakesh Rawal, Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry & Forensic Science, Gujarat University by presenting a memento of Lord Pashupatinath.
The next day i.e, on 27.05.22, students visited the Lincoln Pharmaceuticals located at Khatraj, Ahmedabad. The students visited their OSD plant, quality control department, inward, outward and injectable plant. The students learn about various techniques like granulation, compression, tablet making machines, and packing. Thereafter, students were encouraged by the organization for internship and training followed by arrangement of snacks by the industry. After visiting the plant, HR of the organization Ms. Hemaa Haran was felicitated by the students of Mandsaur University. After the industrial visit, the students also visited the science city to promote scientific thinking and awareness.
The third day i.e. 28.05.22 was started with visit to Amul Dairy, Anand, The plant at Anand is producing milk powder, butter etc. The students learn the different steps in automatic milk separation unit. The students learn about production plant, have given an elaborative overview in step-by step manner about the Amul products production as well as quality control and microbiological analysis. Students have visited pasteurization unit, sterilization unit, milk refrigeration unit, milk product packaging unit, boiler zone for steam sterilization, QC lab and microbiology lab. Thereafter, students visited their Central Lab and Butter plant. After the visit, students visited the Amul Museum and enjoyed a short movie on Amul. Students have enjoyed the visit and raised various queries which have been resolved by industry experts.
At last, students visited the Amul chocolate Factory located at Mogar and learned about various aspects of chocolate making; students visited the chocolate manufacturing unit and saw various chocolate making instruments. After visit, students felicitated the PRO and Mr. N.S Thakre, Managing Director office by presenting a memento of Lord Pashupatinath.
The industrial visit completed successfully upon arrival at Mandsaur University at 5.00 am on 29.05.22. Prof. (Dr.) Arunava Das, Dean and Head of Faculty of Life Sciences, congratulated students and coordinators for successful completion of industrial visit and encouraged students to participate in such types of activities in future.
Outcome: This industrial visit provided the students with a platform to learn practically through interaction, working methods and job-oriented practices. It gives the students an exposure to current work practices as opposed to theoretical knowledge being taught at classrooms. In this industry visit, students understood about the application prospects of their subjects like General microbiology, Dairy microbiology, Industrial microbiology, Biochemistry and Fermentation technology as well as huge job opportunities in pharmaceuticals and dairy industries. The students also learned about the start up of Gujarat University i.e GUSEC which provides a platform for students to start their own startups.
